More than 10,000 visited Přerov WWC games
One of the main reasons why this year´s Division I World Women´s Championships was held in Přerov was top-class experience with local fans. And they sure did fulfill the expectations. A total of 10,390 spectators found their way into the MEO Arena which is the best result of total attendance in this division since 2001. Read more »
Preliminary roster announced for Team Czech Republic
After the pre-WWC game against Slovakia, Team Czech Republic coaches determined the preliminary roster for the 2014 WWC in Přerov. The roster includes 25 players and the final cut will be made at the end of the training camp that will take place in Liberec next week. Two forwards will be removed from the roster before the WWC, the third goaltender is with the team to step in in case of an injury. Read more »
Přerov champion to face Japan in elite division qualifier
This season marks the first time the Division I of World Women´s Hockey Championships takes place in the same year the Winter Olympics do. That is allowed by the fact that all eight Olympic participants are also elite-division teams. The winner of the Přerov tournament, however, will have to get past one big obstacle en route to the elite division and beat eighth-placed Team Japan in a best-of-three series. Read more »
Czech Republic moves to historically best eighth place in IIHF rankings
After the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympic Games concluded, the International Ice Hockey Federation updated the ranking of women´s hockey national teams. While Canada jumped over the United States to grab the lead and Switzerland moved up to third place following their bronze-medal finish at the Olympics, Team Czech Republic climbed to number eight in the standings, which is the highest in its history.
