Alea iacta est, Czechs with Norwegians will fight for first place!

Two gamedays have probably shown us the biggest favourites of this tournament. Two leaders – Czech Republic and Norway – will tomorrow play to reach first place and escape from all other teams. The position of Team Slovakia at the bottom of the standings is maybe a little bit surprising. The biggest underdogs of the tournament are the Austrians, who are playing good hockey, but lost both games late. Danish forward Josefine Persson (pictured) leads with 4 goals.

Czech and Norwegian comets became the only sovereigns

Game stats:

  • Czech Republic - France 3:0
  • Goals: Tejralova, Pribylova, Laskova.
The tournament started Sunday afternoon and the opening game was between the Czech Republic and France. The French stayed even with the heavily-favoured Czechs for almost two periods but before its end, Aneta Tejralova’s blast from the blue line beat Caroline Baldin and the Czechs had a 1-0 lead. In the third period, two more goals from Czech sticks put the game away.

Game stats:

  • Czech Republic - Austria 2:1
  • Goals: Ledlova, Polenska - Kantor.
Next Czech game brought to Meo Arena bigger drama. After the opening period without goals, Aneta Ledlova sent Czechs at the start of middle part of game to 1-0 leading. Team headed by head coach Jiri Vozak performed better but in 48th minute, Eshter Kantor tied the score. Czech team formed huge pressure and thanks to its captain Alena Polenska finally grabbed the win.

Game stats:

  • Norway - Slovakia 6:3
  • Goals: Farstad 2, Dalen 2, Haug-Hansen, Sletbak – Mikeskova, Srokova, Ihnatova.
Norwegian opening game had clear running of its first half. Norwegians were during 25th minute already leading 4-0, twice score Ingvild Farstad. But then, Team Slovakia started cutting the score and it was only 4-2. In this moment, goal harvest started. About Norwegian success finally decided Andrea Dalen who scored her second goal in game.

Game stats:

  • Norway - Denmark 6:3
  • Goals: Dalen 2, Haug-Hansen, Sletbak, Gunther – Olausson.
In Monday’s second match, big Norwegian scoring festival continued. After first half of the first period, team clustered around Arne Billkvam had a 3-0 lead. Score has risen during second period and in last part of game, despite of Danish goal, Andrea Dalen scored her second goal in the game and fourth in tournament.

Tomorrow, both teams are going to play tought game which will decide about unguarded leader. “I think, that favorites are Norwegians. Our game with them will be showdown,” says before probably key-match of whole tournament Czech goaltender Klara Peslarova.

Austrian likeable performances brought only one point

Austrian results:

  • Austria - Denmark 4:5ot
  • Czech Republic - Austria 2:1
The first game against Denmark was, for Austria, a big disappointment. They were leading 2-0 after two periods, but Josefine Persson’s goals twice tied the score. Pekka Hämäläinen’s team took its lead back when Anna Meixner scored. It seemed that Austria would celebrate victory, but 30 seconds before the end of the game, the Danes tied it for the third time, and then won it in overtime. Similarly unfortunate was their game against the Czechs. You can read about it higher in the first section.

Queen of goals – tornado called Josefine Persson

Josefine Persson

  • Date of birth: 28/5/1994
  • Goals: 4
  • Assists: 0
  • Penalties: 0
It was a wonderful performance. One girl single-handedly brought her team to victory. She scored four times and, with a natural hat-trick, helped her team tie the score against Austria. Her last goal came in overtime, giving Denmark a bonus point. Her second goal was especially fantastic. She skated across the ice rink and her solo rush ended with a perfect shot. She became the new “Danish hero” and all the fans wanted to see another goal harvest in the game with Norway, but Persson wasn’t able to score. Instead, Andera Dalen of Norway chased her and now has the same number of goals.

Bronze medal goalie from U18 championship is forcing to have another medal

Klara Peslarova

  • Date of birth: 23/11/1996
  • Minutes: 120
  • GA: 1
  • SVS%: 97.78%
  • Shutouts: 1
Most of fans expected that Czech goalie tandem will be consist of two well-experienced goalkeepers – Radka Lhotska and Katerina Becevova. But reality is another. Only Radka Lhotska is in tandem but she only “warms the bench” and between three red posts is performing Klara Peslarova. This only 17-years-old girl from Ostrava won few weeks ago bronze medal at 2014 Women’s World Championship U18 in Magyar. For this tournament, Peslarova should be as second/third goalkeeper but she has got trainer’s confidence and in her first game made a shutout. Her great performance continued in game with Austria, when – especially at the start of third period – she had a great deal of work. In this moment, she is the best goalkeeper of whole tournament. “I did not expect that I will be as goali number one. Some girls were telling me that when I was in temp from U18 championship, I could get chance there too. And I have got it,” explains Peslarova circumstances of her using as first goalie.

Tomorrow’s games:

13:00 France – Austria
16:30 Denmark – Slovakia
20:00 Czech Republic – Norway
