My goal was very important for whole team, says Soline Fohrer after game with Slovakia
The second day of the tournament brought a very nice game between Slovakia and France. The Slovaks were leading after the first period, but then Soline Fohrer tied the score, which started to turn the game in her team’s favour. In the end, Team France celebrated a 3-1 win. “It’s our first win in this championship, so it gives us a lot of confident,” she said afterward.
It was your first victory in this tournament. How are you feeling as a “winner”?
Well, it is a good feeling. It was an obligation for us to win this game against a good team from Slovakia.
You scored your team’s first goal. Can you describe it?
It was great time to score. It was our first goal in this game and our first goal in the whole tournament, so I think it was very important. We started to play better and kept our performance to the successful end.
At the start of the third period you were on a breakaway and you were tripped. It looked like a penalty shot, but it was only two minutes ...
It should have been a penalty shot because the player came back and used her stick to foul me. She prevented me from getting a shot.
How important is this victory for you?
It’s our first win in this championship, so it gives us a lot of confidence.
You were waiting over 80 minutes for a goal. Did you got any special advice from the coaches after the first period?
The game against the Czech Republic was very hard and tough. The coaches said that scoring the first goal is very important to get back in the game and to give us confidence.
Tomorrow you have a free day. Are you going to practice something special?
Nothing very special. It’s an off day and it’ll be very calm.
How’ll you spend your free time? Can you go to the city, or go shopping?
(smiling) The team visited the city centre and it looked very nice. I’ll probably go there with some teammates again.
Your next game is against Austria. What do you need to improve?
It’s very important to win that game. We need to play with the highest intensity and then continue with winning in every match.
Four of your five games start at 1 p.m. Is it suitable for you, or would the evening be better?
It’s not very important for me to play at 1 pm. But it´s good because all the players are organised on this time and we don’t need to change our timetable.
Don’t you think that evening games could be better to know the results of the other teams?
It could be good for the players to know it, but playing at 1 p.m. is very interesting because the day isn’t longer.
