Overtime win for Czechs against Slovakia in pre-WWC game

First part of Team Czech Republic pre-WWC journey finished in Přerov where the squad squared off against Slovakia. Both teams had leads during regulation, but the game had to be decided in overtime three minutes into which captain Alena Polenská gave victory to the Czechs.

It was Team Slovakia who opened the scoring despite the fact that the Czechs had more time on attack and shots on goal. It was Nikola Gápová who made it 1-0 eleven minutes in scoring a goal from a breakaway. Just four minutes later though, the home team responded by scoring a goal of their own with Denisa Křížová firing the puck home from the right wing to tie things up at one.

In the second period, Czechs continued their pressure until Lucie Povová finished off Mrázová´s breakaway to give her team a 2-1 come-from-behind lead.

Early in the third, the Slovak team looked better out there than before and managed to come back from the one-goal deficit. It was Nikola Gápová again, this time beating goalie Dvořáková from a point-blank range.

With the score tied at two, the game progressed to overtime. However, only three minutes later, Alena Polenská jumped on the rebound in front of the net and scored the game-winning goal for Team Czech Republic.
